Hordes & Delves Update: Scythean & Razorback

After finishing off my Pulp Alley league, I decided I wanted to finish my Legion of Everblight model, the Scythean. The reason was two fold. The Scythean is a melee machine and will get a lot of playtime in my Horde games and the model is needed for my next adventure of Delves.

The process for this guy was pretty simple. The carapace and claws were based with GW Scorched Brown and then dry brushed with a layer of GW Bestial Brown, followed by a mix of GW Graveyard earth and GW Bleached Bone. With a final touch of GW Bleached Bone. This was done first as as their was no worry of messing up another part of the model.

The skin was based with GW Scab Red. A layer of GW Red Gore was then applied halfway down each recess and to all the raised areas. The next layer was a mix of GW Red Gore and GW Blood Red which was applied to the raised areas. The final hightlight of GW Blood Red was used in select areas. The base was painted black and dry brushed with a white mix in a progressive fashion.

The Scythean was relatively easy to convert to the Delves world. I created the Combat Frenzy ability represent the bloodbath. Here is what I came up with;

Razorback Lizard (92 pts.): Ferocious killing machine of the dragon kin.
Monster 6D, Str 5D, Def 5D, Tough 7D, Init 9 Mv: 7”  HP: 16

Attributes & Powers: Armor +2D/+1D, Combat Frenzy, Deadly +2, Extra Attack, Hideous Strength +1D, Melee Attack +1D/+2D, 3” Reach, Sharp Senses, Tremor-sense, Vigor +6 HP

Pulp Alley: Boris

Over the weekend Jet and I had our first game of Pulp Alley. I was quite surprised by how fluid and fun the system was. The combination of different dice sizes and fortune cards made the game exciting and strategic. If you would like to find out more of the Pulp Alley rule-set you can check it out here.

Having the Professor the mastermind behind the league, some muscle was needed for protection. The side-kick Boris more then fills that roll.

I created Boris to be focus on the physical aspects of the game, allowing him to deal with all combat situations in Pulp Alley. The combination of "Muscles of Steel" and "Fierce" makes Boris extremely deadly in melee.

After Boris was finished it practically completed my league. I decided to use a dog as a follower, one of which I already had painted for Chaos in Carpathia.

P.s. I should mention that the Professor and his gang did marvelous, winning both games. It was our first try at the system so I suspect, Cap't Grant and his Liberators will be back to foil my evil plans.....

Pulp Alley: Skelebot 1000

The next feature for my Pulp Alley league are two allies, The Skelebot, Model 1000. Specifically designed by the Professor for ranged combat with deadly accuracy.

Mass production of the model was foiled by the foul Liberators, lead by Cap't Gregarious Grant. But the Professor was able to escape with a few bodyguard models.

The Professor will get his revenge! Muhaahahaha

Pulp Alley: The Crimson Professor

Jet and I have been following the uprising of the new rule-set Pulp Alley on the LA forum. We decided we would like to try out the rule-set as we've both were interested in the pulp genre. This leads to our first game this coming Saturday.

Each player creates a league usually consisting of 3-10 models, depending on your configuration. They usually include a leader, a side kick, a couple of allies, and a few followers.

For this post I will focus on the leader of my league, Vladamir Vrex, The Crimson Professor

The focus of the league will be around the professor and his ability to support the league. I have also chosen theBastion of Science perk to aid the league with his evil inventions. Vladamir will be cunning based, with abilities focused on Wealth, Clever and Shrewd.

Stay tuned for the next post of an ally, The Skelebot 1000. One of Professor's greatest creations.

Back To The Grinding Stone - Impetus: Order Knights

Now that the holiday season is out of the way, I was able to get back into my painting routine. The first project on the list to complete was a unit of heavy cavalry for my Teutonic Knights, specifically the Order Knights.

I decided for this entry I would post a few pictures of the layering process of the unit. A base-coat of P3 Hammerfall Khaki was applied to the comparison, lance and shield.

P3 Menoth White Base was used for the next layer. The paint was applied about half-way down the recesses up to the raised areas.

P3 Menoth White Highlight was then used for the highlight layer. All the raised areas were covered.

I painted the center knight a little different as I may use him as a second general if needed. The crosses were painted with GW Chaos Black, with a center layer of GW Chardon Granite.

The base was sanded and flocked, leaving a few gaps for the ground. The gaps were painted with GW Scorched Brown, followed by a dry brush of GW Bestial Brown. A highlight dry brush of GW Bleached Bone finished the unit.

Cheers and thanks for reading,

A Holiday Review.....

The holidays have passed and another Christmas season is in the books. This year our family traveled to the west coast of our province to spend Christmas with my in-laws. Then it was off to my parents house in central for New years.

Below is a quick shot of the snow storm we ran into on the way. Luckily the winds were down, and with 4-wheel drive we all arrived safely.

Its always nice when we are able to head home and visit family and friends we haven't seen in a while. One thing I really enjoy about heading home is taking a day to head out with nature to do some angling and hunting. With angling season not opening until February some moose hunting was in order. We didn't get our moose but was a great day in the woods all the same.

At my parents house we can leave right from their driveway on Snowmobile or Quad to head out in the country.

Of course while I was home I took advantage taking a few trips up the "track" with Dad and Emma.

One of the trips we took was after a fresh snow fall. We were able to find some fresh moose tracks and a rabbit in the trail, which Emma was ecstatic to see. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a picture of the bunny but I did get the tracks. You can see them if you look hard enough.

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul, my cousin Marcia's fiance while we were home. They were visiting from London, England. Paul was never on Snowmobile before so we had to change that. Suffice to say he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

Another tradition we try to part take in is the "Ireland Cup" (Ireland is my Mother's maiden name). This is compromised of family members, young and old getting together for some street hockey.

Of course you can't have a holiday season in Newfoundland without a visit from Frosty.

But what would a geek post be without news of geekery! I was luckily enough to be on the nice list this year and did obtain some nice Armorcast terrain pieces. In fact it was enough to create an entire graveyard, mausoleums, outbuildings and all.

I have also made some progress since returning home. I have a unit of Order Knights for my Teutonic Order Impetus army almost complete and hoping to have a post on them later this week.
